Everybody knows Breckenridge does sports. 12 months of the year, the area offers world-class outdoor recreation opportunities. Whether you’re an avid sports enthusiast yourself, with hundreds of hours logged on the slopes, or a spectator who virtually counts the days till the spectacular aerial displays of the Dew Tour each year, you’ll find plenty to do and see.
And let’s not forget food. From Mi Casa’s bottomless homemade tortilla chips and salsas, to the dazzling array of colorful options from Modis’s cocktail bar, a foodie can explore the many tastes of Breckenridge for weeks on end without risking a repeat.
So yeah, the first two are Breckenridge mainstays for sure, but then there’s the theater. Wait… huh? Theater? Yes, Breckenridge is home to live theatrical performances as well. Nestled in the heart of the Town of Breckenridge Historic District, across from Fatty’s Pizzeria on South Ridge Street, you’ll find the perfect haven for lovers of the performance arts, Breckenridge’s own Backstage Theatre. The institution can trace its roots back to the mid-1970s, meaning they’ve been providing fodder for laughter and tears for four decades now! As a matter of fact, the theater is now officially in the midst of its fortieth season.
Breckenridge Backstage Theatre offers several stage productions each year, and hosts dozens of special events all year long. For the remainder of March, the theater’s production of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” will see a handful of additional performances before its final curtain call. This will be the last production until cast and crew return for a presentation of the critically acclaimed “Monty Python’s Spamalot” beginning in late June, but you needn’t worry about the theater fading from the public view in the meantime.
During the intervening months, Breckenridge Backstage Theatre will partner with the Breckenridge Festival of Film to bring us their Spring Film Series. Get in on the fun early by voting for screenings of your favorite films as part of the People’s Choice selections. The festivities will be ongoing from April through the beginning of June. Be sure to check it out, and catch some old favorites and new gems alike!
